What we collect

Account details — your email address, username, display name, and profile photo if you upload one. Provided by you at sign-up, or by Google if you sign in with Google.

Your shared-expense records — expenses, amounts, descriptions, categories, who paid, how a bill was split, balances between you and others, settlements you record, and the groups you belong to. This is the core function of the app.

Contacts you add manually — when you add someone who does not use BalanceLoop, we store the name and username you give them so expenses can be split with them. Please only add details you are entitled to share.

Device and technical data — a push notification token so we can notify you, and whether your device is online, so the app can work offline and sync later. A copy of your own data is cached on your device so it stays readable without a connection.

Crash reports — if the app crashes we receive a technical report. It is configured not to attach personal identifiers or IP addresses.

What we do not collect

BalanceLoop only records who paid whom. It never processes, holds or transfers money, and is not connected to any payment provider. We never see your card or bank details.

Who your data is shared with

Other users, by design. An expense is a shared record. People you split with can see the expense, the amount, the split, and your display name and photo. Group members can see each other. This is inherent to how the app works.

We use these service providers to run the app:

ProviderPurpose
SupabaseAccount authentication and database hosting
CloudinaryStoring profile and group images
ResendSending account emails such as password resets
Expo & Google Firebase Cloud MessagingDelivering push notifications
SentryCrash and error reports
GoogleOptional "Sign in with Google"

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising.

How long we keep it

Your data is kept while your account is active. After deletion, see below.

Deleting your account

In the app: Profile → Login & Security → Danger Zone → Delete Account.

If you cannot access the app, email contact@logarithmstudio.com from your registered address and we will action the deletion for you.

You must settle your outstanding balances first. Deletion is blocked while you owe, or are owed, money by another user. This is deliberate: a balance is a shared record, and removing your side of it while the other person is still relying on it would leave their account inaccurate. Settle up, or ask the other person to record the settlement, and the option becomes available.

What is permanently erased

What is kept, anonymised

Expenses and balances you shared with other people are kept, with your name replaced by "Deleted user".

This is because those records are not only yours. If you and a friend split a bill, that expense is equally their record of what happened, and erasing it would silently change their history and their balances with other people. Once anonymised the data no longer identifies you.

Groups you created are transferred to another member rather than deleted, so the other members do not lose their shared history.

Your rights

You can access and correct your account details in the app at any time, and delete your account as described above. Depending on where you live you may have additional rights over your personal data — contact us at the address above and we will respond.

Children

BalanceLoop is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We will update this page if our practices change, and revise the date at the top.
